"Yeah.."

"But you're a girl..??"

I had a lot of these conversations before I started my journey to Australia. The negative reactions really made me feel unsure about my decision to travel alone. Totally unnecessary! Meanwhile I'm here for more than one month. And I really can tell you that it is totally fine to travel alone as a woman. Here I have six tips and reasons for you guys why you should travel alone:

1. FIND THE RIGHT DESTINATION

There are a lot of destinations that are specialized to make the stay of their visitors as easy as possible. So, when you're traveling alone it is helpful to visit these kind of destinations. In Australia there are a lot of backpackers and you can be sure that it is easy to find your way there.

2. LANGUAGE OF THE DESTINATION

Horror: You're feeling like a stranger far away from home and you cannot talk to anyone. Be sure that the destination you want to visit is one with a language you are able to speak or you want to learn during your time there.

3. SLEEP IN A HOSTEL

Hostels are a good place to get to know people who are also traveling alone. By the way: The YHA hostels are really good and clean and you can find them everywhere in Australia.

4. BOOK TRIPS

You will get to know a lot of people during trips. I booked several tours with Peterpans. I really recommend you to visit one of their shops. They will help you to find trips and by the way: They also have wifi.

5. STRUCTURE YOUR DAY

Structure is everything! Start planning your everyday life after your first jetlag-down.  After three days I started doing sports everyday and you should think about writing a travel diary for your friends and family or even start writing a blog.

6. TAKE IT EASY

At this point I have to say you should learn to relax. It was always the most easiest way when I was planning spontaneously. And after a while I was also really happy to be alone and not being depended on somebody. During my time here I met some people who were afraid to be alone in Australia. So, they found someone to travel with and they were arguing a lot. Or they were just annoyed and wishing they were alone. Enjoy your time with yourself and always remember: You're independent, flexible and open for everyone who's also on his own.
